Wednesday Breakout Sessions
April 17 at 1:15PM and 2:30PM CDT (GMT -5)
1 English as Second Language
For those coming to the U.S. from other countries the ability to navigate and find what they need is highly dependent upon their ability to speak English. English as Second Language (ESL) is not a new concept, but has never been more essential than now. ESL is a true "melting pot" with people from all over the world. Among many will be those from Muslim countries who will quickly find a network of new friends in a caring environment, which often presents an opportunity to answer questions about faith in Jesus Christ. Learn from two of our staff who have years of effective experience now serving over 150 individuals in their ESL outreach in the greater Washington D.C. area.
2 Digital Outreach
Muslims around the world are open to connecting with English-speakers online. A significant number of Muslims living in nations closed to the gospel speak “your language” and they are using the internet regularly as an extension of their own lives. Becoming part of our digital outreach equips Christ-followers to be part of this global force online. We have several hundred currently, but need many more to meet the growing demand from Muslims who desire to connect with Christ-followers. Find out what is happening in this emerging arena, and how you can reach the world from your smartphone, tablet, or computer.
3 Models of Ministry to Muslims
There is no such thing as a “one size fits all” approach to reaching any lost person, and that includes reaching Muslims. Unlike reaching those who may have grown up in Christian contexts, there are several key insights to know when approaching Muslims in matters of their own religion and especially the Christian faith. In this session we will explore the variety of effective ways Christ followers as individuals, small groups, even local churches may develop their unique strategies. We will also touch upon some of the “landmines” in reaching Muslim that are important to know.
4 Women and Islam
Muslim women carry a unique set of standards and obligations that stem from deeply held beliefs about their role and their value as women. Likewise, women who are Christ-followers have an important role in establishing life-giving relationships with Muslim women who live around them. Explore the unique challenges women face under Islam as well as the opportunities for openness to faith in Christ many have.
