ESL Classes

English as a Second Language (ESL) classes represent an opportunity for churches to serve Muslims and international communities, including Afghan refugees. We can help your church get started!

Why ESL?

ESL classes meet practical needs and provide fertile ground for relationships that point to Jesus.

People from all over the world are coming to the U.S. as refugees, immigrants, international students, and international business people.

Most of them (and their family members) need English classes to survive and thrive in this land of opportunity.

Christian-based ESL allows believers to reach this community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, in both word and deed, as they help people learn English.

Most ESL ministries start with an ESL school, where English classes are offered at various levels. Although secular life skill curriculum is often used, the gospel can be incorporated through short devotions and prayers. Volunteers often develop meaningful relationships with their students both inside and outside the classroom.

Quotes from ESL Participants:

“ESL ministry is literacy missions through which God transforms lives. God has used our ESL ministry to touch hundreds of lives from over 70 nations. After encountering the love of God through ESL ministry, an Arab Muslim student said, ‘You are a mirror to your God.’ Subsequently, she and her son put their faith in Jesus Christ.”

– F.C., ESL Director

“Volunteering for the ESL ministry allowed me to bring the joy of the Gospel to people who had never heard it. I was able to help recent immigrants become more comfortable with the English language while also teaching them about God's love for them. I was truly blessed by the relationships formed through this ministry.”

– P.F., ESL Teacher

“We have students from many different countries. We share our cultures with each other and they motivate me to study English. I am very grateful to my teacher for teaching us not only English but many other things as well. The ESL class is a part of my life now.”

– C.Y., ESL Student from Japan
