English As Second Language
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share English as a Second Language (ESL) ministry is an amazing way to fulfill the Great Commission in the community surrounding a local church. Opening the doors of a local church connects with people of all nations in very tangible ways. For many refugees, learning English is not just a means of communication but a key to integration, employment, and community participation. ESL programs can significantly impact the lives of refugees, helping them access community resources, education, addressing medical needs and more.
Nearly a dozen Crescent Project staff members are actively leading or serving in ESL programs in their communities throughout the United States. One such program is led by “James and Faith” in the very diverse region around Washington D.C. Over the past few years they have seen the following:
• 1625 adult students participate (and many of their children)
• 70 nations have been represented
• 500 volunteers have been enlisted and trained
• 4,000 Bibles have been distributed
• 1,000 Children’s Bibles have been distributed.
• Muslims and non-Muslims have come to faith, and many have attended the local host churches.
We would love to see “hundreds” of churches embrace ESL as an outreach strategy. With only seven (7) volunteers, committed to sharing the love of Jesus with immigrants and refugees, a vibrant ESL ministry can be launched. the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
