Church Planting: Pakistan

Pakistan

Just behind India in our priority of countries with the most Muslims in the world is Pakistan. Christians comprise 1% of the total population of Pakistan, while 98% are followers of Islam. As a minority religion, Christ followers are limited in their access to education, good paying jobs, and other basic needs. Pakistan’s blasphemy laws make open evangelism difficult and dangerous.

As the world saw in August of 2023, just an accusation of Christians sharing Jesus can incite massive riots and destruction of churches and homes. Discrimination and persecution are very common for Christians.

We have invested the past two years researching how Crescent Project may best proceed in our work there, ultimately planting churches. Unlike many parts of the world where planting churches is a relatively straightforward process of assembling new converts, having a meeting place and pastor, Pakistan presents many challenges to this model. Our entry point will take on a “needs-based” approach, providing solutions to issues faced every day. Educational advocacy will be one of the key features, followed by small business development, as we also invest alongside Christian networks already on the ground and readily known and accepted.

For security purposes we are being rather vague, but ultimately having “presence” on the ground via a registered business will be the strongest approach. This allows for ease of movement within the culture, transfer of funds to fuel the mission.

The risks involved for this project are very high,

yet our calling and resolve are clear.
